Our Approach to Environmental Responsibility
At Matrix Imaging Solutions (Matrix), our approach to environmental responsibility is rooted in operational improvements and realistic actions. While our efforts haven’t always been labeled under a formal environmental program, our commitment to efficiency, resource stewardship and practical decision-making has guided us for years.
We’ve made strategic upgrades to reduce waste and increase efficiency, including the transition from laser to high-speed digital inkjet presses at our New York and Texas production facilities. These systems use aqueous-based, non-hazardous inks that are environmentally friendly. Additionally, certain components, such as fuser rollers, are returned for recycling and reuse in the print process when applicable.
Our standard statement paper is recyclable and often certified by leading organizations such as Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) or Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI). Many of the paper stocks we use also include recycled content or originate from mixed sources, such as fiber sourced from the U.S. and Canada.
Matrix facilities—including our production sites in New York and Texas and our office in Maryland—have implemented LED lighting and low-flow fixtures to reduce energy and water usage. Recycling programs are in place across locations, and we continue to evaluate opportunities to expand these efforts. In our production facilities, all excess paper and corrugated materials are retained, separated and recycled.
We also partner with the USPS through Coding Accuracy Support System (CASS), National Change of Address (NCOA) to minimize undeliverable mail. We support the USPS BlueEarth initiative marking mail for Secure Destruction, which ensures undeliverable mail is securely destroyed and recycled. Document suppression logic and envelope consolidation further reduce unnecessary output. Digital solutions like ePresentment and online payment portals offer paperless options for clients seeking low-impact communication alternatives.
